School Psychologist - (Part Time Position)

SUMMARY: 

The School Psychologist conducts evaluations to determine special education eligibility and serves as a  contributing member on Individual Education Program (IEP) teams. The School Psychologist leads, supports,  and assists in the implementation of a comprehensive Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) within local  school districts. The School Psychologist assists in the development of systems, programs and services that  support the students’ social, emotional and educational needs. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Approval by the Michigan Department of Education as a School Psychologist and licensed, as required, by  the State of Michigan 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Ability to independently problem-solve, schedule daily activities, model good communication, and communicate and work effectively with school district staff and students 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the elements, implementation, and sustainability of a Multi-Tiered System of  Support (MTSS) 
  • Proven ability to work within a consultative and service delivery model 
  • Demonstrated success working within an interdisciplinary model 
  • Knowledge of computer technology applications for reading, curriculum and reports 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Conduct evaluations to determine special education eligibility 
  • Work flexibly within a state sanctioned adaptive model for reevaluations 
  • Proactively contribute as an interdisciplinary team member within the context of IEPs, including development, planning, implementation, and follow-up as appropriate 
  • Implement Positive Behavior Support programs and services 
  • Recommend reading, math and curriculum accommodations for students 
  • Conduct and coordinate workshops in Positive Behavior Support, Reading and Math difficulties and  Curriculum Modifications 
  • Provide effective support in crisis intervention situations 
  • Develop Functional Behavior assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans to be consistent with Michigan  Department of Education requirements 
  • Collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators and parents 
  • Provide individual and group counseling
  • Provide school psychology services in accordance with Michigan Rules & Regulations for Special Education Provide leadership for the implementation of special education services 
 

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED:  

  • Develop individualized programs for students with unique educational needs 
  • Lead, support, and assist in the implementation of a comprehensive MTSS 
  • Function effectively as an interagency liaison as required by contracts 
  • Assist schools in developing strategies/plans to ensure student success 
  • Assist in pursuing grants funding to enhance services to students 
  • Adapt and function independently within several school districts 
  • Complete all required reporting and documentation related to the position within specified timelines Model continuous learning and use best practice in educational improvement 
  • Provide information to local districts regarding state and federal initiatives and legislation  Perform other duties as assigned 

SPECIAL CONDITIONS: 

  • Must keep the affairs of Marquette-Alger RESA and LEAs confidential at all times 
  • Must exercise confidentiality and sound judgment in dealing with local districts, staff, students, and parents 
  • Must demonstrate excellent oral/written communication skills 
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in computer/software use including Google Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Must effectively orchestrate multiple activities/projects simultaneously to accomplish goals and use  resources effectively  
  • Must demonstrate a high degree of organization and efficient time management
  • Must successfully adapt/function independently within a variety of school districts 
  • Position routinely requires travel to local school districts in Marquette and Alger counties, as well as  possible assignments within other counties in the Upper Peninsula 
  • Occasional travel to other areas of the State may be required 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Part-time position. Must have regular and reliable job attendance, performance,  and the physical ability to do the job 

REPORTS TO: Director of Mental Health Services 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: According to Marquette-Alger RESA MEA Collective Bargaining Agreement
