SUMMARY: 

The School Psychologist conducts evaluations to determine special education eligibility and serves as a contributing member of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) teams. The School Psychologist leads, supports, and assists in the implementation of a comprehensive Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) within local school districts. Additionally, the School Psychologist assists in the development of systems, programs, and services that support students’ social, emotional, and educational needs.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Approval by the Michigan Department of Education as a School Psychologist and licensed, as required, by the State of Michigan.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to independently problem-solve, schedule daily activities, model professional communication, and communicate and work effectively with school district staff, parents, and students.
 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the elements, implementation, and sustainability of a Multi-Tiered System of  Support (MTSS).
  • Proven ability to work effectively within a consultative, interdisciplinary, and service delivery model.
  • Knowledge of computer technology applications for reading, curriculum, and educational reporting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  
  • Conduct evaluations to determine special education eligibility.
  • Work flexibly within a state sanctioned adaptive model for reevaluations.
  • Proactively contribute as an interdisciplinary team member within the context of IEPs, including development, planning, implementation, and follow-up as appropriate.
  • Implement Positive Behavior Support (PBS) programs and services.
  • Recommend reading, math, and curriculum accommodations or modifications for students. 
  • Conduct and coordinate professional workshops regarding learning difficulties, positive behavior supports, and curriculum modifications. 
  • Provide effective support and guidance in crisis intervention situations. 
  • Develop Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) consistent with Michigan Department of Education requirements.
  • Collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, and parents to ensure student success.
  • Provide individual and group counseling services to students.
  • Provide school psychology services in accordance with Michigan Rules & Regulations for Special Education.
  • Assist schools in pursuing grant funding to enhance student services. 
  • Complete all required reporting, case documentation, and compliance paperwork within specified timelines.
  • Model continuous professional learning and use best practices in educational involvement.
  • Provide information to local districts regarding relevant state and federal initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
 

SPECIAL CONDITIONS: 

  • Must maintain strict confidentiality regarding affairs of Marquet-Alger RESA and local education agencies (LEAs) at all times.
  • Must exercise sound judgment in dealing with local districts, staff, students, and parents.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in computer/software use including Google Suite and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must effectively orchestrate multiple projects simultaneously to accomplish goals and use resources efficiently.
  • Must demonstrate a high degree of organization and efficient time management.
  • Must successfully adapt and function independently across a variety of school districts.
  • Position routinely requires travel to local school districts in Marquette and Alger counties, with possible assignments within other counties in the Upper Peninsula. Occasional travel to other areas of the State may be required.
 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear. Frequent moving around school buildings to observe students or attend meetings.
  • Requires close vision and the ability to adjust focus to read evaluations, type reports, and administer standardized testing materials. Requires manual dexterity to operate computers and handle testing kits.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds (e.g., laptops, testing materials, files).
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle to travel between multi-district assignments.
  • Standard school environment, including classrooms, private testing spaces, and office settings across multiple school districts.
  • Noise level is moderate to high depending on the school setting (e.g., classrooms, cafeterias, hallways).
  • Requires frequent local travel to various school buildings and districts within Marquette and Alger counties. The role involves frequent interaction with students, staff, and families which may occasionally include stressful or high-emotion crisis situations.
 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time position. Must have regular and reliable job attendance, performance,  and the physical ability to do the job
