Pupil Accounting Auditor
POSITION SUMMARY
Performs Local Education Agency (LEA) desk and field audits related to pupil accounting, and completes associated documentation. Provides technical support and addresses questions related to state reporting requirements and documentation. Coordinates State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECH) application and reporting processes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Four years of related bookkeeping/office experience
- Post-secondary experience or degree in relevant area preferred
- Demonstrates the ability to:
- Organize short and long term projects
- Establish and maintain filing systems (physical and electronic)
- Problem-solve and apply principles of logical thinking
- Accurately complete fiscal procedures (e.g., generating POs, invoicing, coding expenses)
- Proficiency with software/applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Suite, Zoom
- Strong accounting or finance background
- Excellent filing and organizational skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must demonstrate initiative and the ability to work independently
- Professional attitude and appearance
- Post-secondary experience or degree in relevant area
- Prior experience in a local school district, ISD, or RESA
- One or more years of successful experience performing pupil accounting functions/state reporting for a local school district in Michigan
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform LEA desk and field audits for pupil accounting related reports (as specified in the Michigan Pupil Membership Auditing Manual) including, but not limited to the following: Count Day reports, Graduation and Dropout (GAD) reports; and Days and Clock Hours reports
- Assist with Michigan Department of Education (MDE) pupil accounting audits of Marquette-Alger RESA programs
- Assist with preparing for and presenting professional development to LEA data managers
- Provide technical support and address questions for LEA staff and Marquette-Alger RESA staff related to state reporting
- Compile spreadsheets and generate reports of pupil accounting related data and statistics across Marquette-Alger RESA districts
- Download and save various state reports for Marquette-Alger RESA and LEAs
- Prepare/submit reports to auditor for LEA financial audits
- Compile and submit Section 53 documentation for Marquette-Alger RESA and LEAs
- Submit State Continuing Education Clock hours (SCECH) applications to MDE and enter SCECH credits earned by participants
- Monitor Marquette-Alger RESA and LEA data hubs to ensure accuracy
- Address data requests from Marquette-Alger RESA staff and local districts
- Assist with preparation of Special Education contracts as requested
- Prepare and upload documents to Marquette-Alger RESA website
- Participate in MPAAA and MSBO meetings to stay current on reporting requirements and changes that would impact Marquette-Alger RESA and LEAs
- Scan/upload documents for the purposes of digitizing paper records
- Reserve conference rooms and assist with ordering food for meetings
- Perform general administrative / clerical duties such as filing, photocopying, faxing, and creating purchase orders
- Interact with the public in a positive, courteous, and professional manner via email, phone, and in person
- Provide front desk coverage as requested/assigned
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

- Demonstrated experience exercising confidentiality and sound judgment in dealing with local districts, staff, students, and operations
- Ability to work on multiple projects and maintain proactive communication with stakeholders
- Ability to deal with issues in a fair manner, treat diverse populations and personalities with dignity and respect, and act in a highly ethical manner
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment yet maintain flexibility in thinking and actions
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills; highly skilled with Excel and/or Google Sheets
- Perform duties and functions while upholding confidentiality of privileged and sensitive information
- Position requires travel to local school districts in Marquette and Alger counties using personal vehicle
- Willing to obtain Pupil Accounting Auditor certification through Michigan School of Business Officials (MSBO)
- Occasional overnight travel downstate for conferences and activities of professional organizations
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full time position. Must have regular and reliable job attendance, performance, and the physical ability to do the job

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: According to Marquette-Alger RESA ESP Collective Bargaining Agreement
