Speech Language Pathologist (Half-Time) - School Based

SUMMARY:

The half-time Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) provides school-based consultative and direct speech-language therapy services to PreK-12 students. The SLP is responsible for evaluations, screenings, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and educating students, school staff, and parents on intervention strategies. 
 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree and licenced as a Speech-Language Pathologist through the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) 
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) through the American Speech & Hearing Association (ASHA)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to independently problem-solve, schedule daily activities, model good communication, and communicate and work effectively with children, students, parents, and professional staff
     

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience providing school-based direct and consultative speech-language therapy services
  • Experience in educating school district staff and family members, on intervention strategies 
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Evaluate students to determine eligibility for special education.
  • Select and implement appropriate evaluation procedures (including classroom observations, case history information, standardized tests, and informal tests) as determined by the student's abilities.
  • Interpret evaluation findings accurately to parents and school staff.
  • Implement Individual Educational Plans (IEPs).
  • Develop and modify therapy goals and objectives including connections to Common Core State Standards, materials and activities to meet the needs, interests and abilities of students.
  • Evaluate student progress; modify goals and objectives as needed.
  • Create and maintain an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the abilities of the students.
  • Counsel parents, teachers and students concerning the nature/effect/alleviation/elimination of communication disorders.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with staff, students, and parents.
  • Participate in school and district in-service training programs.
  • Plan and present workshops and in-service training programs.
  • Demonstrate adequate knowledge of special education rules and regulations and maintain compliance.
  • Initiate, participate in and follow through on MET/IEP procedures as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, agency/district policy and administrative regulation; submit same at designated times. Records include, but are not limited to, MET/IEP documents, service tracking, student progress reports, statistical reports, compliance monitoring reports, Medicaid reports.
  • Maintain records in a confidential and secure manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
  •  Must keep the affairs of Marquette-Alger RESA and LEAs confidential at all times
  • Must exercise confidentiality and sound judgment in dealing with families, children, and staff
  • Able to work flexible hours
  • Must demonstrate excellent oral/written communication skills
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in computer/software use including Google Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Zoom
  • Must effectively orchestrate multiple activities/projects simultaneously to accomplish goals and use resources effectively  
  • Must be organized, self-motivated and enthusiastic
  • Must successfully adapt/function independently within a variety settings
  • Position requires a valid driver license and routinely requires regional travel in Marquette and Alger counties using personal vehicle
  • Occasional travel to other areas of the State may be required
     

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Part-time position. Must have regular and reliable job attendance, performance, and the physical ability to do the job
