Speech Language Pathologist - School-Based & Program Support Specialist
SUMMARY:
The Speech-Language Pathologist will provide direct and consultative services to students and support the development of speech-language programming across the region. Responsibilities include delivering services aligned with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), mentoring and coaching speech-language staff, and supporting communication services within a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) framework. The position is divided equally between student services and program support activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree and full Approval as a Speech-Language Pathologist as per the Michigan Department of Education
- Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) through the American Speech & Hearing Association (ASHA)
- Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience providing school-based speech-language services.
- Experience providing professional development, mentoring, or coaching to adult learners.
- Knowledge of evidence-based practices in speech-language services, including integration into a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) framework.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, and technology skills.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with educational teams.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Five (5) or more years of experience as a school-based Speech-Language Pathologist.
- Experience mentoring new SLPs or supervising clinical fellows (CFs).
- Knowledge of assistive technology, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and inclusive practices within MTSS frameworks.
- Knowledge of a variety of service delivery models for speech-language services (e.g., push-in, pull-out, co-teaching, consultative support).
- Familiarity with diverse approaches to communication development, including Gestalt Language Processing, Navigating Social Dynamics, and other evidence-based practices for social communication and language learning.
- Familiarity with school districts within Marquette and Alger counties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Direct Student Services (0.5 FTE):
- Provide direct and consultative speech-language therapy services to eligible students in accordance with IEPs.
- Conduct assessments and/or evaluations and contribute to the development of individualized programs based on student needs.
- Collaborate with school teams to support the integration of communication goals across educational settings.
- Participate in compliance activities including evaluation timelines, progress reporting, and IEP meetings.
- Program Support and Coaching (0.5 FTE):
- Mentor and coach speech-language staff to enhance service delivery and professional practice.
- Develop and deliver professional development sessions aligned with evidence-based practices and current compliance standards.
- Support the alignment of communication services within MTSS frameworks, focusing on early intervention and tiered supports.
- Collaborate with local districts to strengthen speech-language programming and build educator capacity.
- Maintain records in a confidential and secure manner.
- Attend required meetings, professional learning activities, and maintain confidentiality regarding student, staff, and district information.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
- Must keep the affairs of Marquette-Alger RESA and LEAs confidential at all times
- Must exercise confidentiality and sound judgment in dealing with families, children, and staff
- Able to work flexible hours
- Must demonstrate excellent oral/written communication skills
- Must demonstrate proficiency in computer/software use including Google Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Zoom
- Must effectively orchestrate multiple activities/projects simultaneously to accomplish goals and use resources effectively
- Must be organized, self-motivated and enthusiastic
- Must successfully adapt/function independently within a variety settings
- Position requires a valid driver’s license and routinely requires regional travel in Marquette and Alger counties using personal vehicle
- Occasional travel to other areas of the State may be required
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time position beginning the 2025-2026 School Year. Must have regular and reliable job attendance, performance, and the physical ability to do the job
